Basically, I’m a pro-bass fisherman now and here’s how it happened..

Ok, maybe not a pro, but I like to be a little dramatic. I did go bass kayak fishing last week for the first time. I even caught two fish!

My friend guided me through the waters and over the course of several hours showed me what to do. She IS a professional and her knowledge and skills were impressive.

I was a novice and that was evident. She was patient and I experienced her passion for a sport I have never cared about. I found myself out on the water with a fishing pole in my hand because of her excitement to show me and teach me. Her genuine friendship to me and her passion for the sport left me intrigued to find out why she liked it so much.

She never forced it, she never judged me for not knowing what she did. We did laugh a lot because I had many mess ups that deserved a laugh.

People will be intrigued by your faith in Jesus by your passion and excitement for Him. I was intrigued by the sheer joy my friend had being out on that water and it was infectious. She taught, she instructed and as I learned she gave me more information.

Discipleship is the passion for others to know Jesus and then grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus because of what you know and teach them. Not everyone will get hooked (see what I did there?) but there will be those that choose to follow Jesus because of your insane excitement to share Him.

Discipleship will not work if it’s a box you feel you have to check. It’s too hard, it’s too messy and it takes too much time. You have to want it.

Pray for a heart of discipleship. Pray that God leads to just one. There are people ready to follow Jesus, they just need to be invited.

Psalm 28:7

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
