Big Thighs & The Enemy’s Lies

Entering junior high I was muscular without trying. That is the first memory I have of being “bigger” than the thinner and more petite athletes on my team or in my classes.

My Monday workouts are always leg days.   I know many people hate leg day and I used to avoid such a thing because who wants bigger legs when were gifted quads out of the womb?

The first lie was whispered early (maybe 11 or 12? ) and I remember it clearly. I resented that my shorts didn’t fit like that of my teammates and friends.  Jeans were a nightmare.

Thigh gap? Not happening… ever.

The enemy comes for all of us in this space. The enemy has found great success in getting us to hate our bodies. The body God created.  We embrace shame when the whispers of the enemy induce us to harmful action.  Mission accomplished, by the one who seeks to destroy us.

It’s a fight to behold our bodies as something to take care of, keep strong and fuel well.  It is a fight to refuse to listen to the lies we hear that start in our mind and lead to our hearts.

My legs are the strongest part of me.  They carry me. I refuse to be ashamed.  You can too.

Take every thought captive sweet sister.   There’s an enemy creating standards we can’t meet and a deception we don’t always see as deceit. Fight against hating your body. Fight for making it strong.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Sincerely

Amber J

P.S I am not a super serious person.  When people encounter me outside of a particular ministry event (usually because I am speaking on something serious), humor is my favorite thing in the world.

I may or may not have amused myself with the title of this post.
